Α quila, long recognized as a global leader in power catamarans, is making waves with a groundbreaking move into the sailing catamaran market. With the introduction of the 44ES, 50ES, and 63ES, the brand combines its proven expertise with fresh innovation, hybrid propulsion, and decades of sailing know-how to create a new generation of cruising catamarans.

A New Chapter for Aquila

For years, Aquila has been synonymous with innovation and quality in the power catamaran sector. Now, the brand is setting its sights on new horizons. Announced by Sino Eagle Group, the parent company of Aquila, the launch of three sailing models marks a deliberate expansion into a competitive and fast-growing market.

“This expansion represents our next phase as a global boat manufacturer,” said Frank Xiong, CEO of Sino Eagle Group. “We’ve proven ourselves in power catamarans, and now we’re leveraging the deep sailing experience of our team to enter this market with purpose and precision.”

Distinctive Design DNA

The new sailing line showcases Aquila’s unmistakable design language, blending form and function in ways that enhance both comfort and performance. Standout elements include:

Bridge-to-bow stairs for effortless movement across decks.

A fixed forward cockpit, transformed into a social hub — a feature many competitors overlook.

Private cabins with ensuite heads and walk-in showers, each with its own dedicated entrance for maximum privacy.

Spacious salon and galley with panoramic windows that maximize natural light.

Aquila’s patented tender crane system, available as an option.

Together, these features create a modern, versatile space that emphasizes comfort without compromising the sailing experience.

Hybrid Ocean Drive™

Perhaps the most exciting innovation is the optional Hybrid Ocean Drive™, an integrated propulsion system that combines electric and diesel power. Unlike add-on hybrid systems, this solution has been engineered from the ground up to ensure seamless operation.

The system allows for silent, eco-friendly electric cruising in harbors and anchorages, while diesel power delivers strength and range when conditions demand. “Our hybrid system isn’t an afterthought—it’s integrated from day one,” explained Jean Raas, CEO and Chief Product Officer of Aquila. “We designed the entire propulsion architecture around this dual-power approach, ensuring smooth transitions and optimal performance in every scenario.”

Advanced Manufacturing Excellence

Behind Aquila’s new sailing line lies Sino Eagle’s world-class manufacturing facility, which has decades of experience producing everything from power catamarans to Olympic rowing shells. Each vessel is constructed with uncompromising standards, including:

One-piece molded hulls, decks, and bulkheads.

Full vinylester resin infusion, offering superior strength over standard polyester.

CFD and FEA applied to every hull and structural component.

Controlled temperature and humidity during molding for consistency.

No wood used in load-bearing bulkheads or stringers.

CE Category A approval, ensuring readiness for unrestricted ocean passages.

These standards guarantee durability, seaworthiness, and quality across every model.

A Team of Seasoned Sailors

Driving this project is an elite team of industry veterans with deep sailing experience:

Jean Raas – former US National Sailing Team member, ex-Moorings/Sunsail.

Lex Raas – co-founder of Leopard Catamarans, former CEO of The Moorings.

J&J Design – responsible for 400+ production boat designs across 70 shipyards.

Nick Harvey – former Lagoon distribution manager and Groupe Beneteau executive.

Jure Zule – ex-Seaway project manager with experience at Swan and Shipman.

This collective expertise ensures that Aquila’s sailing catamarans are designed by sailors, for sailors.

Distribution and Debut

In the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, the new sailing models will be distributed exclusively through The Catamaran Company, a partner with decades of catamaran sales and charter expertise.

The first models will be revealed to the public at the 2025 Annapolis Boat Show, with scale models and presentations available to visitors. The first full-scale debut is scheduled for the 2026 Miami Boat Show, where the Aquila 50 will be unveiled in person.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the 44ES, 50ES, and 63ES, Aquila is not only expanding into a new sector but also redefining it. By combining innovative design, hybrid propulsion, advanced manufacturing, and the insights of seasoned sailors, the brand is positioning itself as a serious player in the sailing catamaran market. It’s a bold new chapter — one that underscores Aquila’s commitment to growth, innovation, and the evolving needs of modern sailors.
